This project is about the interpersonal relationship and the connection between people and their surroundings in public areas. The outdoor bench design is inspired by the movable seats of Star Ferry and it adopts the Chinese character of the number “Eight” to form opposite and neighboring seats. By allowing people to move the backrest frontward and backward, the bench can bring convenience to people when they are talking with each other. This project aims at encouraging people to actively connect with people nearby and their surroundings. The opposite seats in two rows also serve as the boundary for the region, creating their own space in a public area.
